SOL Originals Framed Tee (Dominicana Edition)
This Sista of Liberty features iconic elements of Dominican culture. Her tricolor dress represents both the national flag and the vibrant culture and joy of Dominican merengue, the country's national music and dance. Engraved on her tablet is the phrase, "Dios, Patria, Libertad," which translates to "God, Homeland, Liberty.” It is taken from the Dominican coat of arms, and represents the proud patriotic spirit of this Caribbean island nation.
Also included in the artwork is the endemic flower (the rose of bayahibe), the Alcazar de Colón (a famous Dominican historical site), and the Obelisk located along the wonderful Malecón in the capital city of Santo Domingo. The circle represents the sun of the warm homeland in which the famous phrase of the great Dominican poet, Pedro Mir, is inscribed: "There is a Country in the World."
Our artist, Willy Gomez, was inspired by Dominican women whom he considers “strong" and "fighters." He says they "continue forward despite all the obstacles that life presents.”
A percentage of net proceeds will be donated to The Mariposa DR Foundation, an organization dedicated to creating “sustainable solutions to end generational poverty by educating and empowering girls” in the Dominican Republic and US (mariposadrfoundation.org).
